Freelance Contract
Salary: £4,500 project fee
Deadline for entries: 10th June 2012
25th June to 8th October (minimum 4 days per week from 1st July)

About us:
Alpha-ville is the London International Festival of Post-digital Culture exploring the intersection between art, technology and society. Every year the festival features a unique combination of music, films, digital and new media art exhibitions, community events, urban interventions, workshops, labs, talks and innovative educational activities. A symposium is carefully designed to allow artists, creative technologists, professionals, thinkers, policy makers and organisations to learn, connect, network and share new ideas.

We are a not-for-profit festival running for 3 years in London. Our headquarters is located in Hackney, Netil House which is also one of the main festival hubs. The 4th edition of the festival is planned between 3rd and 7th October across several venues mostly in East London. We are a small but passionate team who are looking for talented people to join us and bring along their skills and experience.

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the management, operations and co-ordination of the festival programme and the team (including paid staff and volunteers) and will make sure that the event runs up to the desired standard for artists, staff, participants and festival goers.

Work activitiesbefore the event (pre-production)
•overseeing the production process, drawing up a production schedule;
•liaising with the venues to organise all needs;
•ensuring that the production is cost kept to agreed budgets;
•making sure that teams and technical needs are met on time and are of good standards;
•drafting a timescale for the job;
•being responsible for the delivery of equipment;
•liaising among different departments: technical, volunteers, staff, artists
•working with directors to implement the company’s policies and goals;
•ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed;
•hiring volunteer team leaders;
•assigning tasks and responsibilities to volunteer teams;

During the event (production)
•Supervision, control & liaison of different teams: technical, volunteers, staff, artists, bar
•Controlling that the venues deliver on time
•Organising supplies delivered
•Making sure all performances happen in the right order and on time
•Dealing with team leaders to make sure schedules are delivered on time
•monitoring the production and adjusting schedules as needed
•monitoring event standards and quality-control
•Organising the closure of the event after the audience has left

Skills and Profile:

•You are able to manage and motivate staff and volunteers
•You have excellent organisational and problem solving skills.
•You have had previous experience in similar environments, running teams and working under pressure.
•You have a good degree of technical knowledge.

Reports to:
You will work very closely with the 2 festival directors and report directly to them.

Required:
The role will require flexibility to work long hours, especially during the festival
You need to have a proven track record of managing large scale events with multiple venues
Experience managing budgets, partnerships and achieving in-kind deals
