Alpha-podcast presents TRISTEN

TRISTEN

For this new installment of the Alpha-ville podcast series, our guest editor Luis Munoz had the privilege of speaking to the man behind the forward thinking AIM label and former contributor of the WHITE label family. This passionate producer goes by the name Tristen.

Before we start, could you please introduce yourself? What have you been up to these past couple of months?

Hey, my name is Tristen. I’m from Berlin. My week is spent between working at Native Instrument, studying and playing some gigs. In addition to that, I run the label Aim and I’m also a member of the WHITE label family.

We love your sound. It has rich and textured qualities that are a real treat to hear. How long have you been producing tracks for? Do you come from a musical background?

Thanks! I don’t have a classical music background but music has been important to me for a long time. I was in a few noise/ambient bands a while back, which made me really focus on specific sounds.

And now?

Now, I enjoy producing dance music because it gives me the possibility to transform feelings into tracks and share them with the crowd on a dance floor. It’s quite an intense sensation.

When did you start DJ’ing? And what initially drew you into it?

It just happened naturally. I started Djing and making some tapes for friends in the 90s. At that time, there were only a few good weekly radios shows to listen to underground music. I still get feedback on those old tapes and It makes me smile!

What are your favorite spots to play in?
I don’t have a favorite place. It all depends on the vibe of the night. You can create a unique moment in a small venue, that’s what it all is about.

Talk to us about your record label, AIM. How did it originate? Why ‘AIM’?

My intention was to initiate a label that supports producers and musicians with a particular production style and a sophisticated sound signature. I used the name Aim to make sure people recognise the value music has nowadays.

Aim Label

Is it just you running the label?

It’s me curating the music and Jan creating the visual aesthetic of the label.

Have you got any big plans for 2013? We hope to catch you in London.

I would love to come to London especially because I’ve never been there.

What sort of music do you love apart from House and Techno? Any guilty pleasures?

Yeah. I love folk and classical music. When I was a kid I used to listen to punk rock and 70’s ambient music.

We thank Tristen and Luis for this nice insight into his music and now we let you listen to the podcast on Soundcloud. Also you can now download it via iTunes. Read this post for more information.
