PICK OF THE WEEK #15
The Wilderness Downtown

Written and Directed by Chris Milk
Google Tech Team: Aaron Koblin, George Brower, Michael Chang.

Enter your childhood street address at the beginning of this riveting interactive video for Arcade Fire’s song “We Used to Wait” and watch the elegiac single become your own coming-of-age story—complete with nifty HTML5 effects and images of your hood, courtesy of Google. (Time Magazine)

Editor’s Note: This work was created in 2010 and we got caught by it again at Future Everything last month. It’s about the future of web experience in HTML5, and an amazing showcase of Google Chrome as a future web browser. The film beautifully renders an interactive movie story inspired by Arcade Fire’s song “We Used To Wait.” While composing an new concept of music video, it demonstrates aspects of the future web technologies such as choreographed windows, interactive flocking, custom rendered maps, real-time compositing, procedural drawing, and 3D canvas rendering. The future technologies are already on your fingertips, and waiting for your creative inspirations. This piece is one amongst the really interesting Google Chrome Experiments, worth checking out.

Experience The Wilderness Downtown here!
(Google Chrome browser is strongly recommended)
